The GMC Terrain gets a hefty revision for 2016, with new features and a few updates. Come see how they made this small crossover even better at Gainesville Buick GMC, serving Newberry, Palatka, Lake City, and Ocala out of our Gainesville, FL headquarters.
The Jeep Cherokee was released just a few years ago, but it can’t quite match the features and specs of the latest from the GMC Terrain.
Both the GMC and the Jeep come standard with a 4-cylinder motor, but the Terrain gets better mileage. EPA estimates for the Cherokee with front wheel drive stand at 22 city/31 highway MPG with the base motor. The Terrain matches the city rating and does the highway number 1 better, with 32 mpg.
The base 4-cylinder motors in these 2 SUVs make nearly the same power and torque. Opt for the V6 motor and the Terrain overpowers the Cherokee by 30hp and 33lb-ft of torque. The GMC 3.6-liter V6 is rated at 301hp and 272 lb-ft or torque, which explains why it goes 0-60 about 1/2 a second faster than the Jeep.
The 2016 GMC Terrain is slightly larger than the Cherokee on the outside, but it puts it to good use on the inside. Just behind the seat the Terrain has an extra 7 cubic feet of cargo space. In the passenger area, the Cherokee loses to the Terrain by 5 cubic feet, mostly in the headroom category.
For a fuel-efficient small SUV with all the luxury and durability you expect from GMC, test drive the GMC Terrain.
